It is a bit like the placebo effect in a way in itself. For instance when my grandmother was dying in hospital the whole family prayed for her ease of passing, for us it was like a safety net, so when we did fall from the death we remembered that God had helped in the passing, that she was all right.
Of course I totally respect that you prayed for your Grandmother to have a painless passing, I can understand why God would help with that. But why would God help an American football player win some games rather than African children who are starving, or children who are being abandoned by their parents for not being the right gender?
